A lonely linuxer log #20 – re-introduction

Hi everyone, today I want to reintroduce myself.
There’s an Indonesian proverb: “tak kenal maka tak sayang,” which roughly means “you can’t love someone you don’t know.”
So, let me re-introduce myself.

My name is Hubaka Ghayati Setyakurnia — yes, that’s my full birth-certificate name. I was born on May 13th, 1997, in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

My childhood was simple, creative, and fun. I went to Al Ikhlas and TK Andhika for kindergarten, then continued to Priangan Elementary School. When I was in 2nd grade, my parents divorced and I transferred to Banjarsari Elementary School.

After that, I studied at SMPN 7 Bandung — which at the time was the 3rd best middle school in the country (and if I remember correctly, it became the top one after I graduated). It was a great environment: clean, well-organized, and perfect for focusing on academics.

Thanks to that momentum, I passed the entrance tests for SMAN 3 Bandung, which was known as the best high school back then — it even had its own Wikipedia page. But with that achievement came pressure, and that’s when I started experiencing the early signs of mental health conditions.

I later got into university but dropped out twice, from Itenas and Unikom. By December 2018, I decided to stop chasing academics altogether.

But life didn’t stop.
Back in 2017 during my time at Itenas, I tried making a game called D-Rive, a simple 3-lane car game. Then in 2019, I joined the IGSI Game Jam, and in 2020 I worked on two projects with my cousin. Since then, I’ve continued making small games — and here we are now.

In high school, I wasn’t just a student. I joined OSIS, became the batch leader for PMR, and participated in NK3, KIT3, and Hikmatul Iman — basically, I was very busy. And yes, that pressure played a role in my first real mental health struggles.

But it was also in high school where I met programming for the first time. My very first program was a simple area calculator — circles, rectangles, triangles, squares — right after the classic “Hello World.”

So yeah, that’s me. I hope by knowing me better, you might appreciate me a little more too.
Until the next post.

Cheers.
